Which LINE tool for which job

LINE gives you a lot for free, and LIFF / MINI Apps go further. Here's how to choose — the decision in three questions, then how LIFF and MINI App really differ.

The decision, in three questions

Q1Can a built-in console feature do the job? (coupon, reward card, survey, rich menu, keyword reply, MyShop)
It fits

Use the built-in feature. Fast, free, no dev.

Needs more

Integration, custom logic/data, or AI beyond keywords — go further.

if it needs more
Q2Do you need a web screen — or just smarter chat & automation?
Chat only

A Messaging API bot + backend. No LIFF needed.

Web UI

Build a LIFF app — forms, bookings, custom screens.

if a web UI
Q3Does that web app need to be discoverable & branded? (in-LINE search, permanent link, home-screen, service messages)
No

A plain LIFF app — ship now, no review.

Yes

A LINE MINI App — verify (~1–2 wk). In TH/TW: certified provider first.

LIFF vs LINE MINI App

They're not really either/or: a MINI App is a LIFF app that's been verified. The real question is whether to go through MINI App verification, or run a plain LIFF app.

Plain LIFF

A web app you host, no review to launch. Flexible sizes, multiple apps per channel. Best for internal tools, campaigns, and MVPs.

Verified MINI App

A LIFF app that passed LINE's ~1–2 week review. Unlocks discovery, a branded link, home-screen shortcut, and service messages.

What verification unlocks

  • Searchable in LINE + Home Tab
  • Permanent branded link
  • Add-to-home-screen shortcut
  • Transactional service messages
  • Consent-screen simplification
  • Verified badge

Thailand & Taiwan gate

In TH/TW you must reach 'certified provider' status before you can even submit a MINI App for review — Japan doesn't require this. Worth planning for early.
